Dothan Area Information
Dothan Alabama is located a few miles from the state lines of Georgia and Florida. It is a short 78 miles to the white sandy beaches of Panama City Beach. Dothan has very mild winters and since Dothan is located 80 miles inland we are out of the hurricane zone.
Dothan has a small town feel and cost of living while providing all of the amenities of larger cities. With a cost of living 18% below the national average, residents of Dothan can make their dollar go further. Taxes and insurance are both incredibly affordable, a stark contrast to the state of Florida just 13 miles south. In the Dothan area, home prices have held steady and prices are expected to continue to hold.
The Panama City-Bay County International Airport project will be complete in 2010, bringing national and international accessibility to Dothan. The Bay County Airport will provide convenient travel options to the entire Wiregrass area.
Excellent hunting and fishing are within a 25-mile radius of Dothan. Golf is also very attractive at four public golf courses, including Highland Oaks, a Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.
If you are retired you should know that retirees fall into a lower Alabama income tax category. Income from specified retirement systems and benefits received under a "defined benefit plan" are exempt from Alabama income tax. For federal retirees, there is no state tax on their pension.
